A covid-19 pandemic hobby turned into a real-life hustle. During quarantine, I wanted to find new ways to be creative. Like everyone, I was online shopping like crazy to fulfill my addiction, and tie dye was blowing up. I have always loved tie dye and… LIGHT BULB. I thought, “I could totally make that.” When family and friends wanted to pay me for the custom designs I was creating, I knew this was it. Instantly, I was like, “I’m quitting my day job and this is what I want to do.” When I think about it, I was always supposed to be an entrepreneur/artist. As hard as it is to run my small business alone; it is worth it. Starting the TDP Instagram is what really made this business into what it is today. Using only social media to showcase new pieces, current projects, offering custom tie dye was a game-changer. Now Tie Dye Pop is almost 2 years old ready for the next step. TDP is a part of the amazing, supportive small business community in Kansas City. Thank you for supporting my small business and loving custom-made pieces!

Hi! My name is Serina and I’m the creator of Tie Dye Pop. I never knew I wanted to own my own business. I’ve always thrived on structure and rules, but then again I get bored easily. This should have been the first red flag to being an entrepreneur.  Growing up on Long Island and coming from the world of corporate Visual Merchandising in NYC; entrepreurship wasn’t something I was familiar with. I got as far into the Visual Merchandising industry as I could and decided to move to the Midwest. My husband had a work opportunity in his home city. After jumping around between small merchandising positions, covid hit and my mind was more clear than ever before. Tie dye was something I'd only done at Girl Scout camp. Finding inspiration, researching techniques, and experimenting, I found out that I could create and recreate almost anything. Family and friends were starting to become interested in buying pieces. Learning how to make this a successful business was a major challenge, but tie dye has proven to not be a trend. Now I consider myself a local Kansas Citian, living with my husband, three dogs and a baby on the way!
